0-0: A clean sheet and one more point on the board!

UD Almería did not manage to extend their spectacular winning streak. A missed penalty and an explosive shot hits the post.

SD Huesca bring UD Almería's spectacular winning streak to an end at the Mediterraneo. Despite this fact, the Rojiblancos reached full-time with a point in their pockets to continue topping the second tier table. There were plenty of reasons for the score to have tipped the balance in favor of the hosts. Sadiq Umar missed a penalty in the first period, Curro hit the woodwork and the second half saw some Indálicos’  squandered opportunities. Anyway, neither side managed to break the deadlock (0-0).

With 20 minutes on the clock, Sadiq was dangerously challenged by an opponent inside the box. UD Almería had the opportunity to take advantage against resilient visitors who had started with intensity. However, the Nigerian failed to convert from 12 yards.

The Rojiblancos put in a brave fight to avoid being surrendered, since most of the goal-scoring opportunities were created by the home team. After half an hour, Curro Sánchez’s explosive shot was taken following a free-kick from a wide position but unluckily he was denied by the woodwork.

The clash did not vary much in the opening minutes of the second half. As soon as the teams returned from the changing rooms, goalmouth activity was experienced by the fans thanks to two fine attempts that almost ended in a goal. The ball went over the crossbar on both occasions through Arnau Puigmal and Curro Sánchez.

Out of the blue, SD Huesca found the opener after latching onto a lack of concentration from the Andalusian defenders. Well, they did not as the goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR check. Although the 0-0 continued on the scoreboard, that no goal gave Rubi’s men a scare so he decided to bring in refresh players to stop the Oscenses’ counter-attacks started from deep defending. Appiah, Ramazani, Dyego Sousa and Robles came on as second-half subs; the Almeria-born player would be key to regain control in the midfield.

Until full-time, UD Almería piled on the pressure high upfield, but without showing certainty in their intentions. Ramazani put goalie Andrés Fernández to the test with a thumping shot from the edge of the box and shortly after, the Belgian footballer took a direct free-kick and ended up grazing the crossbar.

UD Almeria and SD Huesca did not manage to break the deadlock and had to settle down for a share of the points in a goalless draw (0-0). It is another hard-fought point for the Rojiblancos to continue leading the table during a busy three-game week since they are visiting Águilas FC this Tuesday for a Copa del Rey first round tie and next Saturday, they will be heading to Madrid, where they will meet with CF Fuenlabrada.
