Young defender Manu Pedre discharged from hospital

Doctors ruled out a serious injury but the wound needed some stitches. The footballer could play on Sunday

Almeria ‘B’ defender Manu Pedre, who was taken by ambulance to the Mediterraneo Hospital after sustaining an injury during the game against El Palo, was discharged from hospital a few hours after his admission. The health personnel ruled out a serious injury, although his wound needed some stitches. It was not necessary for the young player to spend the night under observation.

The player chatted to UDA Radio and he said that he was feeling ‘much better’ and ‘can’t wait to join his team again.’ Manu detailed the moment of the play: ‘It was quite windy, the striker attempted to do an overhead kick but he did not see me behind. I tried to head in to get the ball out and he hit me above the ear with his boot.’

Despite the unexpected kick, Manu got up on the grass and asked his head coach Fernando Santos to continue playing. Nonetheless, the Club's medical staff told him that the wound was quite deep and that he could not continue in action. ‘The doctors told me that it was necessary to take me to the hospital because the injury needed stitches. Everything was quick and it went well,’ he added.

The central defender rejoined his team-mates in Thursday’s practice at the Vega de Acá neighbourhood. Fernando Santos could count on Manu for the next clash against Vélez. ‘We have already spoken with the doctors and, if the coach needs me, I hope to be with my team on Sunday,’ explained the defender.

Manu Pedre was accompanied at all times by the coordinator of the Academy team Agustín Sánchez on the way to the hospital and co-captain Javi Robles. In addition, his Almeria ‘B’ peers sent him get well wishes: ‘I’m very happy and grateful to my team-mates because they texted me at night to check on me,’ the player stated.

Fortunately, everything was a just a scare and the player is now ready to join Almería ‘B’ and continue with their fight in the race for promotion to the Segunda Division RFEF.
