Wellington Luis Farias da Silva to bring valuable experience to Almeria ‘B’ goal

The 26-year-old Brazilian keeper arrives as a free agent and signs until the end of the 2021/22 season

Wellington Luis Farias da Silva joins UD Almería ‘B’ to bring valuable experience to the youth team’s goal. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has signed a contract with the Rojiblancos ‘B’ team until the end of the 2021/22 campaign. The Brazilian was available to sign for free over the first half of the current season, although he has made great strides in his footballing career in Portugal. He stands out for his physical strength, agility and good reflexes between the sticks.

The new Almeria Academy squad goalie, who was born on 4 January 1995, took his first steps in Europe at the Club Sport Marítimo lower ranks, making it to its senior team eventually, before moving to SC Salgueiros in the past 2017/18 season.

Welligton met Almeria ‘B’ head coach Fernando Santos when he arrived at the Portuguese club Gil Vicente FC for the start of the 2018/19 season. He also enjoyed the great opportunity to be part of a top flight Primeira Liga team a season later playing for this Lusitanian side.

The goalkeeper now joins UD Almería to bring considerable experience to the Rojiblancos second team’s goal competing in group IX ‘A’ (fourth-tier Tercera Division). In addition, he is going to reinforce a position which only Lluís Tarrés occupied –not counting Almeria Under-19s ‘A’ teenage Rocha appearances- after Dani Junior Ltif did not pass the preseason test.

Wellington will now have to deal with all the necessary paperwork to complete his signing, the same as Almeria Women Alyson Matheus did before he can make his debut in Spain.

Sergio Contreras will no longer play for Almeria ‘B’

On the other hand, the club has reached a mutual agreement with Sergio Contreras to terminate his contract with Almeria ‘B’, so that the 22-year-old player no longer belongs to the Rojiblancos second team squad. The Utrera-born right-back’s contract was meant to expire at the end of this current season.

UD Almería fully appreciates his total commitment displayed during his time as an Academy team member and at the same time, the club wishes him the very best of luck and successes in his future endeavours.
