‘We want to show in Las Palmas our true identifying features’

José Gomes, Almería head coach, is convinced that his team will recover the good level of play against opponents he praises

‘We want to show in Las Palmas our true identifying features.’ These were statements made by José Gomes, Almería head coach, during the virtual pre-match press conference he gave before Saturday's game at the Gran Canaria Stadium. It will be a meeting that, in the opinion of the Portuguese gaffer, ‘is a new opportunity to get three points’, but also, as he pointed out, ‘to assess how we are doing.’

In this context, he argued that ‘we were not the best team in the world when we won in Lugo, and now, we are not the worst team after the defeat in Logroño. I hope to see the best version of ourselves, something that is not in your imagination, but a fact that everyone witnessed in Lugo and Sporting de Gijón. We have worked well. I’m absolutely confident and I’m optimistic.’ Nevertheless, he clarified that ‘we have to prove it on the pitch though.’

José Gomes acknowledged that ‘the start of the week wasn’t the best, it was rather uncomfortable, but this is good…it’s actually a sign that the players were aware of the match we played in Logroño. There has been a phenomenal recovery over the days.’

Regarding the next adversaries, Jose Gomes was full of praise for Las Palmas: ‘they are a team that play with fierce intensity. They have speed on both flanks, which shake things up. They do not let their opponents play comfortably in midfield and on top of that, they are very strong in offensive transitions.’
