‘We have to do in Leganés what we did against Espanyol or Rayo’
Petrovic believes that the team have to keep their feet on the ground and continue competing in the same way
Almería are among the 32 best teams in the Spanish Cup and Petrovic highlighted during an interview with UDA Radio that they want more: ‘The Spanish Cup is a different competition from the league. We know that there’re many Second Division teams that usually progress to the final rounds, like last season. Our first goal is the league championship, of course, but we want to go as far as possible in this cup tournament.’
Knocking CD Numancia out of Copa del Rey was not a piece of cake: ‘The weather and pitch conditions were tough. It was really difficult to avoid slipping while running and play football well as we like. I emphasise as something important that there were no injuries and the entire squad endured to continue being available. And the victory, of course. Playing on that football pitch was difficult for both teams but obviously we’re not used to it, ‘he explained on the Club's official radio.
It was not the most brilliant game, yet the team made it. Petrovic considers it essential: ‘This year, the games that are not played quite well have ended up in victories and that’s very important. It’s a big difference compared to last year. No team can play well over forty-two days and the points are that counts. If we want to gain automatic promotion, it’s important to collect points and not to lose games in which we may not be so fine. It’s our mentality. That’s the only way to go far. Last year, for instance, two teams with more experience than game got promoted,’ argued the Serbian defensive midfielder.
There is no time to think about what has been done so far because in three days there will be a new fixture, against Leganés. Petrovic pointed out during his chat on the club’s radio station the following thought: ‘They’re actually a top-flight team and we’ll play on their home turf. We have to do what we’ve shown when taking on difficult teams such as Espanyol or Rayo. We’re going to go all out for the three points and above all, we must avoid losing. Small details will definitely be decisive. We know what we have to do in order to win.’
The 31-year-old Rojiblanco midfielder makes a wish: ‘I’m hoping to see our fans in the stadium soon. We were able to see spectators in the stands and although there were not many, it’s always better to see fans supporting at the stadiums. I truly hope our fans can join us soon so as to enjoy themselves.’
