‘We at least deserve a draw considering our performance in the second half’

José María Gutiérrez, who did not understand his sending off, made it clear that ‘playing against twelve is really complicated’

‘We at least deserve a draw considering our performance in the second half’; these were statements made by José María Gutiérrez, head coach of the UD Almería, in the post-match press conference after the game played in Huesca. The coach and his players, were upset with the refereeing and made it clear that ‘playing against twelve is really complicated’

Regarding the meeting itself, the gaffer explained that ‘they are a great team, they have started the game on a good note, especially when they play at home, and they have scored three goals. We had worked hard during the week, but it seems that until we are reacting not acting.’ Then he added that ‘in the second half we were stronger, we scored two goals and were too close to score some more. There have been two really different halves.’

According to José María Gutiérrez, after four matchdays failing to achieve victory, ‘we must have peace of mind’ because ‘the League is very long’, and pointed out that ‘there are fourteen finals and we have to start winning three points after three points. That will boost the players’ self-esteem.’

The head coach regretted and kept looking for explanations for some possible dodgy referring such as Mikel Rico’s handball in the second goal and a penalty in the final minutes in favour of the rojiblancos. As for the penalty, a similar situation had already happened against Numancia. ‘These are things that hurt. It looks like in these last matches the refereeing is penalising us quite a lot’, he said.
