‘We are already devising an action plan’

Lorena García, president of the UD Almería Foundation, is together with the mayor of our city, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, and the club itself, the person in charge with his work team of devising an action plan ‘that we are already preparing’ to invest the 1,200,000 euros that the president and owner of the UD Almería has donated to fight coronavirus in Almeria. 

‘Since the donation was announced, we have been in touch with the Almería City Council, especially with the mayor, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco. We have been considering what are the best options to reach out to inner city communities and benefit the Almería society, explained Lorena García. 

Subsequently, she pointed out that ‘the health provision is being directly controlled by the central government and Almería has got resources. It is true that we will need more in the coming weeks, depending on how the situation evolves. We guarantee that extra resources will be provided to all the hospitals in Almeria. We are going to make sure that all the health workers in Almería are equipped with everything necessary to tackle the pandemic.’ 

On the other hand, the president of the Rojiblanca Foundation pointed out that ‘we are addressing basic needs because Almería is not one of the most affected areas. We have to keep calm in case the situation worsens and other types of resources are necessary. Right now, we are also going to focus on the serious repercussions for the local economy after the confinement. We are going to deal with the families who are suffering the financial crisis so that their basic needs are covered.’ In addition, she added, ‘This is a long-term project because the consequences that may arise in Almería will come afterwards. Everything is happening these days, and therefore it will be important to have a budget allocation to be able to react in case something happens in Almería in the near future.’ 

Lorena García valued that ‘a sports corporation allocates such large amount of money directly to help volunteers, health workers and all those who are suffering out. It is very thoughtful of our president, Turki Al-Sheikh. I feel immensely proud to be part of this UD Almería family from the beginning.’
