We are almost halfway there!

Almería continue with their small-group training in separate areas on the pitch. Mario Silva meets the squad

Since Almería return to non-contact training and small group training of up to 10 players a couple of weeks ago, the squad continue getting ready focusing on building their strength and fitness up.

There is no doubt that it is a massive step forward towards the restarting of the competition, especially after two months without stepping on the pitch. However, the observable fact of training in small groups in separate areas on the ground, plus not being able to interact with each other, does not allow the head coach, José María Gutiérrez, to work on the tactical aspects in the most suitable way.

Everything will come at the right time when LaLiga receives the go-ahead from the Government so that the squads can start collective training as per usual before football shutdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.

As aforementioned, preparations are mainly focusing on the players’ fitness, although the coaching staff are also working on the technical and tactical aspects by practising ball combinations, passing and finishing drills as it happened on a sweltering day last Thursday. There are scheduled a morning training session at the Anexo, and a second session in the evening back on the training ground and in the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium.

Moreover, Mario Silva, UD Almeria Academy Director, met the squad after coming back from Portugal. The Portuguese visited the Mediterraneo and talked to José María Gutiérrez, the rest of the coaching staff and also with the players.
