Rubi previews clash with Real Valladolid CF: 'A win would aid our growth'
The UD Almería head coach emphasises intensity and 1v1 duels ahead of José Zorrilla Showdown
UD Almería head coach Rubi is focused on bouncing back from his side's recent defeat, asserting that a win against Real Valladolid CF would be crucial for the team's development. The Catalan manager spoke to the press ahead of the match on Matchday 5 at the José Zorrilla Stadium, highlighting the defensive strength of Pucela and the importance of competing at their best.
'We're coming off a defeat and making up for it with a win would help us a lot in the team's growth,' Rubi explained. 'Valladolid are the strongest team in the division defensively, with excellent stats and an ability to win every battle. They're also very intense,' he added.
Despite conceding 9 goals this season, UD Almería's head coach remains optimistic, pointing out that his team has minimized opponents' chances since their loss to Albacete BP. 'We've been hit harder than we've worked and we admit there have been mistakes, but the next opponents' effectiveness in responding to those errors is very high. We continue to improve,' the Catalan stated.
Rubi acknowledged that his team have been punished at key moments in games but expressed confidence in the attacking potential of his squad. 'We have tremendous quality up front, but we need to be more effective. We're also working on improving defensively. Once the players who arrived later and the injured ones are back, starting in October, we'll be much stronger,' the Vilassar de Mar native explained.
Looking ahead to the match against Real Valladolid CF, Rubi emphasised the need for intensity and focus. 'We need to compete at our best, avoid the hits we might receive, and play with intensity. 1v1 duels will be crucial,' he said. He also noted that the intensity of the match could influence the refereeing decisions, highlighting the importance of fair play.
On the squad front, Rubi expressed satisfaction with the current group, praising the contributions of key players like Aridane. He also wished former players Maximiano and Lázaro Vinicius well in their new ventures in Saudi Arabia. 'Maximiano and Lázaro are taking on new challenges and I wish them the best of luck,' he remarked.
The gaffer confirmed the absence of Chumi, who is expected to return for the next Matchday, and noted that Soko and Nelson Monte's availability would be determined after the following training session.
UD Almería's match against Real Valladolid CF on Saturday promises to be a crucial test as Rubi's side looks to bounce back and continue their growth in the early stages of the season.
