Stefan Dzodic: 'We’re going to La Coruña to win, but we must play a great match'
The UD Almería midfielder acknowledges the challenge ahead but stresses confidence in the team's current form
Stefan Dzodic, the 20-year-old rising star of UD Almería, has expressed his confidence as his team prepares for a tough clash against RC Deportivo La Coruña. Despite acknowledging the formidable challenge posed by the historic Galician club, Dzodic believes that UD Almería’s strong recent form and attacking talent give them a real chance of coming away with a win.
'We’re playing well, full of confidence, and we want to keep that momentum going,' said Dzodic during an interview with UDA Radio. 'We know we’re facing a great team, one that like us, aspire to be in the top two or six positions in the standings. Dépor are a historically strong club, and playing at their stadium is always tough. But we’re going to La Coruña with the goal of winning. We must perform at our best, and I’m confident we can do it.'
Dzodic also pointed to the tough environment at the Abanca-Riazor stadium, where Deportivo have yet to concede a goal this season. However, the midfielder remains optimistic about UD Almería’s chances, citing the team’s attacking prowess. 'We have very talented attacking players who can score against anyone,' he said.
For Dzodic, finding the back of the net in La Coruña would be a significant milestone. 'Scoring there would be a big step forward for us. But we’re still at the beginning of the season, and every match is different,' he stated.
Born in Montpellier (France) to a Serbian family, Dzodic’s footballing journey has been shaped by his father, a former player for Montpellier who now provides valuable advice to his son. 'After every match, I talk to my dad about how things went. He always gives me good advice, but most importantly, he reminds me that football is a game, and you have to have fun with it,' he shared.
Having progressed through Montpellier’s youth system and earned a few Ligue 1 appearances, Dzodic has now embraced the challenge of Spanish football with UD Almería. 'I came here to play and help the team achieve its goals,' he said. 'I’m young and it’s only been a short time at the professional level, but the head coach and my team-mates have given me great confidence and I want to repay them with strong performances on the pitch.'
Confident in his abilities, Dzodic is determined to continue his development and contribute to UD Almería’s ambitions this season.
