UD Almería set for another season in LaLiga Hypermotion

After two consecutive unsuccessful play-off campaigns, the Rojiblancos will once again compete in Spain's second-tier next season

UD Almería's 2025/26 campaign has come to an end and with it another painful setback in the Club's pursuit of a return to the top flight. The Rojiblancos will compete in LaLiga Hypermotion for a third consecutive season following their relegation from the to flight m, after once again falling short in the promotion play-offs.

Last season, UD Almería were eliminated by Real Oviedo in the semi-finals. This time, they went one step further, only to suffer heartbreak in the final against Málaga CF despite holding a favourable position heading into the decisive second leg. A goalless draw at La Rosaleda Stadium left everything in their hands and back at the UDA Stadium, in front of their own supporters, a draw would have been enough to secure promotion. Instead, they suffered the one result they could not afford: defeat.

The Club's ambition remains unchanged. UD Almería are determined to return to LaLiga EA Sports and establish themselves once again among Spanish football's elite. For now, however, that objective must be postponed. The focus will soon shift to the 2026/27 campaign and another challenge for promotion.

The players now head into the summer break disappointed by the outcome of a season that promised so much but ultimately ended in frustration. After two unsuccessful attempts through the play-offs, UD Almería will hope that a third opportunity finally brings the reward they have been chasing.

This was the 5th promotion play-off campaign in the Club's history. The first ended in success, with promotion to the top-tier achieved under head coach Javi Gracia. Since then, the Club has suffered semi-final defeats under José Gomes and Rubi, although automatic promotion was secured the following season. Last year's elimination came against Real Oviedo, while this season's disappointment arrived at the hands of Málaga CF in the final.

The challenge now is to regroup, learn from the experience and begin preparing for another push towards the top flight.
