UD Almería set for unusual week with one-and-a-half matches

The Rojiblancos prepare for suspended match vs AD Ceuta FC on Wednesday and a full encounter with SD Huesca on Saturday at home

UD Almería return to training after a well-earned rest on Sunday following their dominant 3-0 victory over CD Leganés last Saturday. This week, however, presents an unusual challenge: the Rojiblancos will play one-and-a-half matches.

On Wednesday at 7pm (CET), they will resume their suspended Matchday 13 clash with AD Ceuta FC, which was halted at half-time due to a tragic incident involving the death of a Ceutí supporter at the Alfonso Murube Stadium. The game was tied 1-1 at the break, with other Caballa side initially taking the lead before Adrián Embarba equalised for UD Almería.

The second half of the match will be played this week and with the score still level, the result could see the Rojiblancos maintain their current position in 4th place, just 1 point behind the 3 teams above them in the automatic promotion spots. Alternatively, a win could lift them to the top of the table.

Saturday’s fixture against SD Huesca on Matchday 16 will be a full 90-minute encounter, with UD Almería aiming to build on their solid form.

Head coach Rubi has the advantage of having Lopy available again after serving a one-match suspension, meaning he can field his preferred line-up, provided none of the players who were suspended for the original fixture against AD Ceuta FC are selected. As it stands, no such restrictions apply, so the gaffer will have a full squad to choose from as he looks to navigate a busy and crucial week.
