UD Almeria Women ready for RFEF Segunda Division debut this Sunday
The Rojiblancas host CD Pozoalbense at the Emilio Campra Youth Stadium for a 12 noon opening game with free admission
The wait is now over after achieving promotion! The team led by head coach Álvaro García Búrdalo face this Sunday their season opener within the 'Grupo Sur' of the newly created tier RFEF Segunda Division at the Emilio Campra Youth Stadium (KO 12 noon). CD Pozoalbense, a team accustomed to fierce battles after competing in the league competing in the Liga Reto (Second tier of Spanish women's football).
Tickets for the curtain-raiser are free for attendees. The girls from the South coast will start the regular season full of hope as they were a revelation of the previous season until the point of obtaining a more than deserved spot in the higher division. That is why they want that this excitement is shown on the pitch where they are keen to perform as well as they did in the past campaign getting positive results to make history.
The coaching staff has built a squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign in which key members of the dressing room who achieved important goals last season remain such as goalkeeper Carmen Belmonte; defenders Lucía, Laura, Mati, Eva and Mar; midfielders Adriana, Mireya and Anita Paris and last but not least, attackers Jessi, Paqui and Fatima. Likewise, the team has been reinforced trhough talented additions with the likes of goalkeeper Sarah; defender Rocío Molina; midfielders Lorena and Eva Ortiz and wingers Ángeles and Nadia López, although the latter has to go through a long-term recovery process after being seriously injured last summer.
On a side note, Academy players Peláez and Marisa have made the step up to senior set-up while Ángela Moreno, Marina Simón and Tejedor will get into day-to-day routine within this roster, although they belong to the girls 'B' team.
UD Almería Women will have to face the first of all the stern tests that await this imminent campaign. CD Pozoalbense, as mentioned above, come from higher tier Liga Reto, which is why the Indalicas have to walk out onto the pitch with deep concentration, since as seen in pre-season, the clash between Rojiblancas and Cordobesas will ensure a game with plenty of end-to-end activity.
Charity Toy Collection
The RFEF Segunda Division opening game will be a charity match after the UDA Foundation has launched a collection of toys, school supplies and clothes —in good condition— so spectators can donate their items to the Club's volunteers at the Emilio Campra Youth Stadium. It is worth highlighting that these products will be delivered in Lebanon, being the Spanish Legion, who have to travel to this country, the ones in charge of transporting them to their destination.
