UD Almería will make their 19th appearance in the Copa del Rey

The biggest achievement was reaching the semifinals in the 2010/2011 season. Rather, the team did not overcome the first-leg on 5 Copa del Rey matches

The UD Almeria will start the week off with a Copa del Rey fixture, which due to its format change, has resulted in a first round match to be contested by the rojiblancos and the Tamaraceite (Third Division). This will be the 19th consecutive appearance of the UD Almeria in the competition, taking into consideration that their very first appearance under the name of ‘Sports Union’ in the competition date back to the 2002/2003 season. All in all, the entity have taken part in all editions, coinciding with their continuity in the professional football leagues.

In all seasons, the ‘Torneo del K.O’ (also known as Copa del Rey) the UDA were on the cusp of reaching their peak in 2010/2011. At the time, the UD Almeria were active in the First Division and reached the semifinals, in which FC Barcelona prevented them from making their dream come true. FC Barcelona won a landslide 5-0 victory at the Camp Nou Stadium, and won 0-3 the second leg at the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium.

Before that result, the rojiblancos performed brilliantly in the Copa del Rey. In the round of 16, Real Sociedad pulled out from the competition allowing Almeria to celebrate victory. The first leg’s score was 2-3, whereas the second leg’s score was 2-1. In the second round, Almeria won 4-3 and 3-4 over Mallorca, while RC Deportivo was their rival in the quarterfinals that ended with a 1-0 win at the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium and 2-3 in Riazor.

Next Thursday, it will be the first round for the UD Almeria. Their first match will be played against Tamaraceite in this edition of the Copa del Rey. 5 out of 18 matches Almeria did not manage to beat their opponents. This 2019/2020 season will be the 19th chance to make the UD Almeria’s dream come true.
