UD Almería in mourning after Jesús Verdejo’s death
He was one of the Rojiblancos club advisors for nearly 20 years. The club receives countless messages of condolence and will observe one minute’s silence on Thursday
UD Almería is in mourning; Jesús Verdejo Vivas, club advisor during the previous club management, passed away at the age of 86, and his death has caused a deep thought not only in football and sports across Almeria, but also in Almeria society since he was a well-known, loved man and with plenty of charisma.
Jesús Verdejo came to the board of directors of UD Almería back in October 2002 when Manuel García became president. Shortly afterwards, Alfonso García took over the majority of the shares and assumed ownership of the club, also becoming president in the end. Jesús Verdejo remained on his organisational chart. For many years, he was the advisor to the first team coinciding with the UD Almería’s first promotion to the top flight.
An endearing, loving and generous human being who devoted much of his time to the Rojiblancos club and veteran football, of which he was his great promoter at the provincial level. UD Almería paid tribute to Jesus Verdejo so as to recognise his distinguished career in March 2016.
The messages of condolence do not stop being sent to UD Almeria and that says a lot of his charismatic personality. Jesus Verdejo will be sorely missed.
UD Almería will observe a minute's silence in Thursday’s match versus Tenerife on 26 November to be played at Juegos Mediterráneos.
