The UDA Foundation's players have a whale of a time in the Genuine Santander League

The Rojiblancos participated in the second phase of the tournament, with a balance of a victory, a draw and a defeat.

The underlying aim of the Genuine Santander League is to ensure that people with intellectual disabilities are encouraged to reach their full potential. The Almería Foundation team, made up of players from several Schools of Intellectual Disability, ‘Asalsido’, ‘Sailing’ and ‘ASPAPROS’ participated in the second phase of La Liga Genuine Santander 2019/20, held at ‘Luis del Sol’ with Real Betis Balompié as host.

Throughout this weekend, 18 of the 36 clubs nationwide competing in this league have been distributed in two main groups. On the one hand, those of the ‘Sportsmanship Group’: Club Atlético de Madrid Foundation; RCD Mallorca; Real Oviedo; Albacete Foundation; UD Almeria; Málaga CF Foundation; CD Tenerife EDI; and Real Betis; on the other hand, those of the ‘Companionship Group’: Real Sporting de Gijón; RC Deportivo de la Coruña; CA Osasuna; Deportivo Alavés; Granada CF; SD Eibar Fundazioa; UD Las Palmas; Córdoba CF; Fundació Futbol Base Reus; Villarreal C.

The players moved to the Betis Foundation sport facilities to play their first game on Saturday. Almeria debuted against Atlético de Madrid and the match ended in a draw (2-2). The same day, in the afternoon, the UDA Foundation’s side lost 0-4 to Real Oviedo. On Sunday, the competition continued in the morning and Almeria took on Albacete Balompié pulling off a surprise 0-2 victory. Subsequently, the phase concluded awarding medals to all the participants.

The third phase of ‘LaLiga Genuine Santander’ will be held at two different sporting venues: from 24th-26th April in Gijón, with Real Sporting de Gijón as host; and from 27th-29th March in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the UD Las Palmas as host. The teams will participate in one of the sporting venues of each phase; this time, ‘Almeria Genuine’ will do so in the Canary Islands.
