The UD Almeria Foundation helps manufacture more face masks

Paqui García Campoy’s mother manufactures face masks in Garrucha. The UD Almeria Foundation contributes towards the material

The Almeria Women player Paqui García Campoy’s mother, is a dressmaker and has already made 200 masks for her municipality, Garrucha. The red and white Foundation wants to make a donation so that Paqui can carry on sewing masks, thus providing residents from Almeria with this item that is in high demand these days. In this way, the UD Almeria Foundation does its bit to avoid the spread of the coronavirus. Some 600 more units can be manufactured with this donation.

How did the idea of making masks come about?

I am a dressmaker and I currently have a lot of free time because of this situation. I had material at home so that I decided to use it for a good cause. However, I did not have enough and thanks to a friend of mine who sells cloth, he provided me with this material to be able to make them. I have decided to donate them to Civil Protection for distribution, because they are sorely needed right now.

What should the mask be like and what material are we talking about?

It has to be a breathable fabric. I am sewing some elastic bands to them and I am giving the mask a suitable shape so that they fit like a glove.

How long does it take to make a mask?

It takes me about 8 minutes from I start cutting the fabric until I finish it. I made 200 masks from eight o’ clock in the morning and I finished all of them at dawn, around 4 a.m., although I was not working continuously.

What is the process from when you decide to make masks for the population until the different groups receive them?

I contacted a councillor to tell him that I had spare time. I just needed the material in order to to do it for free. Once I had them done, I phoned Civil Protection. They came over to pick them up and then, they were in charge of distributing them.

Where are they being distributed?

The first ones have been distributed to the Local Police and social workers.
