‘The players are clear about the concepts and ideas of the game we want’

José Gomes states that ‘I am happy with what we are doing; but when the transfer market ends, I will be much happier’

‘The players are clear about the concepts and ideas of the game we want’; These were statements made by José Gomes, Almería’s head coach, to the club's official media from the training camp in Marbella. In this regard, he added that ‘footballers are trying to embrace this philosophy of play in each game and they are also improving it in each and every training session.’ The Portuguese gaffer made it clear that ‘the players like this way of playing.’

At the same time, José Gomez pointed out that ‘I’m happy with the work we are doing during this pre-season, but we can’t relax. We have to continue working along the same lines, becoming aware of what we are doing and of the squad we are building too.’

Regarding the new players who are arriving and the squad that is being built at the moment, the Almería’s head coach stressed that ‘I’m happy, although when the transfer market ends, I’ll be much happier…because that is what the club's managers want.’

The Portuguese head coach insisted on the distinguishing features that he wants for his team: ‘we want to play well and with aesthetic dimensions of the game fulfilled. Our dynamic has to be offensive, although this doesn’t mean that we have to forget about defending, which is also of significant importance. We must find a balance between both aspects, especially when we are attacking so that opponents can’t surprise us.’

José Gomes also spoke about successful former footballers and coaches as his role models, naming Bobby Robson, Jesualdo and José Antonio Camacho, whom he met at Benfica.
