The club manages gym equipment for the players' homes

Javier Agenjo, the first team’s fitness coach: ‘We want to intensify the players’ workout routines so that they keep fit.’

Almería are dealing with a sports centre in our city the possibility of using their sports and gym equipment at the players disposal, so they can make use of it at home. Javier Agenjo, fitness coach of UD Almeria first team, explained to UDA Radio, which is the official radio station of the Rojiblanco club that players will keep fit after the interruption of the squad’s training sessions.’

The member of the José María Gutiérrez’s coaching staff argues, ‘we really want footballers to exercise to a much greater degree of intensity and because of this, we need that specific training gym equipment that most of the players do not have at home.’

Javier Agenjo carries out a follow-up control on the physical preparation of the members of the workforce, and they have been instructed to date: ‘to do some workout of strength, mobility and using the weight of their own body.’

The fitness coach has pointed out that in order to control the footballer’s workout better, the goalkeeper coaches are in charge of the keepers’ day-to-day workout routine; the medical services are monitoring the injured players. For the rest, Javier Agenjo and Víctor Fortes, who is also a fitness coach, have divided the rest of the squad into two groups to answer their questions and send them some specific training workout.

On the other hand, Javier Agenjo pointed out that ‘in the same way, we are monitoring the players’ percentage of body fat and their diet.’

Regarding the resumption of group training, he said that ‘currently, we cannot rule on it. When the time comes, we will see what the situation is. For instance, it is clear that in five days we will not be able to compensate for the things that have not been done in twenty days ... It would be ideal to get back to work two weeks before competing. But right now, it is talking for the sake of it.’

On a personal level, he commented that ‘I am trying to keep my mind busy doing a lot of sport and studying, something that under normal conditions I could not do.’
