UD Almería face Champions League opposition in third pre-season test

García Pimienta's side take on Real Betis in La Línea on Saturday as preparations continue with their toughest challenge of the summer so far

With just over 2 weeks to go before the new league season gets underway, the margin for error is quickly disappearing. UD Almería's next pre-season opponents are no ordinary side either. Real Betis coached by Manuel Pellegrini, will compete in this season's UEFA Champions League and are significantly further along in their summer preparations than the Rojiblancos.

The match kicks off at 8pm Spanish Time at the Ciudad de La Línea Stadium.

UD Almería trained on Friday morning before travelling to Marbella later in the day, where they will hold an 8-day training camp through 7 August.The clash with Betis comes on the first full day of the camp, meaning head coach García Pimienta's side is expected to carefully manage his players' minutes as the squad continues to build fitness.

Real Betis have already played 4 pre-season friendlies, most recently facing Olympique Lyonnais on Wednesday. Their previous opponents were Sportfreunde Siegen, Recreativo de Huelva and Granada CF. After Saturday's meeting with UD Almería, the Verdiblancos will continue their preparations against Arsenal and AFC Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, UD Almería have only played 2 friendlies so far against Águilas FC and Granada CF, having had less time to prepare than their upcoming opponents. Even so, with the start of the league campaign fast approaching, every training session and every match becomes increasingly important as the Indálicos continue their build-up to the new season.
