Babić: Set-pieces are one of our best weapons

The Serbian UD Almería central defender recalled his last goal against Valencia CF: I knew where Robertone was going to serve the ball; I just had to tap it in.

UD Almería central defender Srđan Babić has been a key player in the last games, not only because of his resolute defensive performances but also, in a very special way, thanks to his huge contribution in attack with two remarkable goals against RC Celta de Vigo and Valencia CF after a pair of well-taken corner-kicks.

Set plays offer some of the best scoring opportunities in football. They can also result in costly turnovers if not done correctly. 'Set-pieces are one of our best weapons. Hopefully, we can stay on the right track. The same player took both corner-kicks that found Babić, who said the following about his team-mate: 'I knew where Robertone was going to serve the ball, so the easiest job was left for me, I just had to tap it in,' recalled the UD Almería player.

'We know that 30% of the goals in modern football come from set-pieces and we work hard on it during the week. The head coach and the coaching staff insist on these details,' explained the Serbian footballer.

The Banja Luka native has netted three times in LaLiga, and now he hopes to extend his goal tally: 'It's an honour to score in Almería because you can tell that this city lives for football.' Babić will also try his best to score away from home since as he mentioned: 'We're in the final stretch of the championship and we have to go all out to get points in every game. We're also missing an away victory that would give us a final push.'

The 26-year-old central defender underlined: 'We're all very connected and we won't lay down our arms until the last day. Each game is decisive because you never know if 38 points will be needed in the end, 40 or even 42 to finish outside the relegation zone so we're focused squarely on the aim.'

The UD Almería travelling squad are going on a trip to the Cívitas Metropolitano Stadium, where Atletico de Madrid will be waiting for them. Babić looked ahead to Sunday's fixture: 'We're going to Madrid with great faith and hope to score points. We aren't going to lay down our arms against the biggest clubs either. People thought that FC Barcelona would win, however we were the ones who grabbed the three points. We won't be carrying the white flag.'
