Rubi reflects on draw against Málaga CF: ‘We need to be more decisive in both areas’

UD Almería head coach Rubi shared his thoughts after his side's 1-1 draw with Málaga CF, admitting that while the result was fair, his team had once again missed a chance to climb into the automatic promotion spots for top-tier LaLiga.
Rubi stressed the importance of regaining a positive mindset as the team heads into the new year, with the ultimate goal still being promotion to Spain’s top division.
'We need to return from the Christmas break ready to fight for a top-two finish, and if that’s not possible, the play-off spots,' he said, adding that both pathways lead to the same destination: LaLiga’s top tier.
Although he acknowledged Málaga’s merit in scoring, the Catalan noted: 'A draw would also have been a fair result because we created chances. Málaga CF’s efforts were fair as they scored one more goal.'
Reflecting on his team’s performance, Rubi pointed out the areas that need improvement. 'We must work on becoming more decisive in both penalty areas, which was our main shortcoming today,' he concluded.
