Kaiky: 'We must take it one game at a time and focus only on what's next'
The UD Almería central defender states: 'We're happy to be back playing at home and hopefully it will be getting 3 more points.' The Brazilian warns: 'Anything can happen in this final stretch, and I say this based on what we experienced last season at Albacete.'
UD Almería central defender Kaiky, who has also played up front or as a pivot in certain matches given his versatility, is very clear that in this final stretch of the season, we can't make assumptions, but rather 'take it one game at a time and focus only on what's next -on Sunday's away game at CD Eldense. Last season, he was on loan at Albacete, and he recalled: 'Teams now have a lot at stake, whether they're at the top or the bottom of the table. We needed to win 8 of our last 10 matches, and we won the last 8 against opponents at the top.'
The UD Almería player emphasised: 'We have to be very alert and also use more energy to seek promotion.' He then added, 'We must put a lot of energy into the opening minutes because we know what we're playing for at home. Against Racing Club de Ferrol, we lacked a bit of rhythm with the ball, and we're going to try to improve that. I reckon we have to create more plays and attacking situations in each match and as I said, improve on the part of passing the ball more and getting to the opponents' goal more quickly.'
Playing at home gives us confidence because, as he explained: 'It's always important for us to play at home with our fans. We know the results we've had recently at our Stadium and it all depends on the support we receive. We're happy to be back in the game for the second time this week. Hopefully, it will be with another 3 points.'
Speaking about the opponents, he said: 'When we played at their Stadium, I remember it being a very difficult match. The way they play, everything is a bit more direct football with a lot of combativeness between the centre-backs and the forwards. We know how they play and I'm sure they'll make it very difficult for us.'
Kaiky, who despite his youth displays great maturity, calls for continuing to grow as a player and contributing as much as possible to UD Almería. He points out the importance of this Sunday's match and stresses: 'We're focused and looking to get into these last 5 matches in good shape and seek promotion by any means necessary. The team are in very good mental state.'
