Andrés Fernández: 'We must try to be an invincible team'

The UD Almería’s new goalkeeper calls for balance, unity and ambition ahead of key clash with current LaLiga Hypermotion tabletoppers Racing de Santander this Sunday

UD Almería shot-stopper Andrés Fernández has issued a rallying cry to his team-mates and the Club’s supporters, urging them to build an 'invincible' team as the squad continues to gel following a summer of change. Speaking on UDA Radio, the veteran goalkeeper emphasised the importance of defensive solidity and taking chances in attack.

'We’re still adapting because there are many new faces in the squad, but the focus is on improving every day, overcoming the setbacks and becoming stronger,' said Fernández.

The 38-year-old, who joined UD Almería this summer, highlighted the team's attacking quality but insisted that balance will be key: 'We create a lot going forward thanks to the technical quality we have, but we need to be a team that concede very little and capitalise on the few chances we create.'

Andrés Fernández praised the welcoming atmosphere within the dressing room, crediting the Club’s veterans for fostering a strong group dynamic: 'I’ve felt at home from day one. The experienced players help the younger ones and push all of us to be better. A strong unit is forming but we have to prove it on the pitch.'

The new keeper also underlined the importance of forging a strong bond with the supporters: 'We want the UDA fans to identify with us. That means showing commitment, character and good results.'

Looking ahead to Sunday’s LaLiga Hypermotion clash against high-flying Racing de Santander, Andrés stated: 'They’ve been the best team over the first 3 fixtures. That should motivate us, we must compete hard, take the game to them and show we’re also a top squad.'

Away from the pitch, the Murcia-born goalkeeper also opened up about his passion for technology and business. He revealed that he is currently working on an AI consulting project, though it does not have to do anything with football.

As both a leader on the pitch and a thinker off it, Andrés Fernández is emerging as a key figure in UD Almería’s 2025/26 campaign, one that aims not only for results but for identity and ambition.
