Rubi: 'We must extend this unbeaten streak as much as we can'
The UD Almería head coach considers the 2-1 victory against Deportivo de La Coruña fair and of vital importance for the team aspirations
UD Almería head coach Rubi shared his post-match thoughts as this 2-1 victory over Deportivo de la Coruña extends their unbeaten run to six games: 'In the first half we suffered because we didn't handle the ball well enough, it was difficult for us a lot of beating lines, creating goal chances... The second half was like putting the game to bed, we created enough chances to not have the uncertainty of the end. I reckon the victory is fair and it was vital because we're on a winning run that we must extend as much as we can.'
The Catalan head coach highlighted the growth of his team after the break: 'I think that our fans greatly enjoyed the second half. We managed to recover the ball earlier, we outplayed the opponents and we began to see more creativity on the part of attacking players.'
Rubi spoke about Gui Guedes, the surprise in the starting XI: 'I'd like to highlight his contribution. It isn't easy to be there and put in such a good performance. He won the ball back when the team needed it the most.' Another of the leading players of the night was Baba, about whom he stated: 'When we arrived we found a player who wasn't that happy, who had lost a little confidence and even enjoyed football. He didn't play the first 7 games as a starter, he knew how to wait for his opportunity... It was good for him not to start from the beginning because he needed time and today he's definitely an extraordinary player, who recovers what it isn't written and who feels confident on the ball.'
The Indálicos have scored two or more goals for eleven consecutive match weeks so the Vilassar de Mar native Gabe his take on the matter: 'We've maintained that statistic, which is really positive and we've slightly reduced the rate of conceding two or more goals, to one. We're gutted that we conceded from a corner-kick again.'
The gaffer explained the latest changes, in which he tried to secure the score: 'The feeling we've had from the coaching staff is that there was very little left and that they were overturning, they could give us the ball in a foul and I chose to protect the result. The good thing is that nothing wrong has happened, we've managed to ensure the victory by not letting Dépor find free spaces to attack us.'
