Melero: 'We'll have our chances against CD Leganés, but it'll be complicated'
The UD Almería co-captain, like head coach Rubi has said recently, is ambitious about UD Almería's Spanish Cup ambitions. 'We've got high hopes for this competition,' he emphasises
Gonzalo Melero, one of the captains of UD Almería, participated in the Spanish Cup draw held at the RFEF headquarters, being present virtually to talk about the Rojiblancos' objectives in the tournament and give his opinion on the rivals that they will have to face. The Madrid native midfielder warned: 'We're facing a top-flight team and it'll be complicated,' although at the same time, he pointed out: 'We'll have our chances.'
After knocking Sevilla FC out in the previous round, head coach Rubi said in a press conference that he preferred not to get drawn to the big ones like Real Madrid CF, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid... in order to have a better chance of remaining in contention. Melero spoke in the same terms and highlighted: 'We have high hopes for this competition.'
The UD Almería player commented that 'once we eliminated UD San Sebastián de los Reyes and Cultura y Deportiva Leonesa, we really wanted to face a top-tier team and perform at our best, as it happened against Sevilla FC. Now we're eager to continue on this track. Melero assessed UD Almería's progress this season very positively, stating: 'We're all very happy with the progression we've had and with our recent performances, but we're halfway through the campaign and there's still a long way to go.'
'We're going to go the extra mile to try to achieve the objectives… the main one, promotion to the Primera division and then, in the Spanish Cup, to go as far as possible,' he concluded.
