The UD Almería defender dismisses the idea of playing for draws and expects his side to 'stay true to their style'. He believes it will be 'a tough and open tie until the very end.'
UD Almería defender Álex Muñoz has spoken in detail about what he expects from the first leg of the promotion play-off: 'These are mini-finals that must be played at 100%, without thinking that a draw in the tie is enough for us. We have to go out and win every game; firstly because we have the quality to do so and secondly because I'd rather we were eliminated while giving everything than by hesitating.'
The defender delivered a message of ambition during his press conference: 'We don't want to speculate and then go through playing in a way that isn't true to who we are, especially because I believe that takes us further away from our ultimate objective.'
Speaking about the opposition, Muñoz said: 'They're a very competitive side and they're tough to face at home. They always play with great intensity and at a high tempo, but we're prepared to deal with that. In one-on-one situations we must be very aggressive so we don't get overrun.'
The full-back highlighted several key factors: 'We have to prevent transitions and stay fully focused, operating as a compact unit and remaining solid because, in the end we always create goal-scoring opportunities.'
With a career full of promotion play-off experience, the 31-year-old knows exactly what these ties are like: 'These matches are very different from regular league games. We're excited and highly motivated and although we know it'll be difficult, we're capable of winning. These games are usually so evenly matched that they're often decided by the smallest details.'
Saturday's first leg will take place at the SkyFi Castalia stadium and the Alicante native expects a long battle: 'Both teams are attack-minded and nothing will be settled in the first leg. It'll be a tough and open tie right until the end.'
