Jon Morcillo: 'We're a team hungry for victory'

The UD Almería’s new left-winger talks about his ambitions, footballing career path and the upcoming home challenge against AD Ceuta FC

After an unexpected start in Almería, Jon Morcillo is eager to settle into his new surroundings and help turn the team’s fortunes around. The 27-year-old, who joined from Albacete Balompié in January, discussed his journey to the Club, his ambitions for the season and the upcoming home challenge against AD Ceuta FC in an interview on UDA Radio.

Morcillo, who had the dream of playing for Athletic Club de Bilbao, reflected on his footballing career progression. He acknowledged the pressure of joining a team like UD Almería, which commands respect in LaLiga due to its history and strong squad. 'This Club always commands respect when you face them. I say this from experience. They force you to be focused because they have important players with great track records,' he noted.

With the pressure on, the left-winger is determined to rise to the occasion: 'Right now, I’m trying to get to my best level to help in any way I can.'

Looking ahead to the weekend's match against AD Ceuta FC, Morcillo is fully aware of the challenge that lies ahead. 'They're a fearless team in a good position. They know what they’re doing and how to play, keeping possession,' he explained. However, the Amorebieta native remains confident that UD Almería can turn their form around: 'We’re a team that’s fired up and eager to give the fans something to cheer about and get on a winning streak.'

Despite a poor run of results, Morcillo is confident that the Rojiblancos have the quality to bounce back. 'We have more than enough team, squad and staff to turn things around. Football changes quickly and if we win this weekend, we’d see things differently. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. And we’re going to start this weekend.'

Reflecting on his footballing career, Morcillo touched on the significance of his move to UD Almería after a successful spell at Albacete BP: 'I’ve had a rebirth at Albacete BP but now I’m focused on this new challenge. I’m ready to fight for a starting place and help the team achieve its goals.'

With his sights set on getting UD Almería back to winning ways, Morcillo is determined to make a significant impact in the months to come.
