Bonini: 'We're the first ones who aren't happy'
The UD Almería central defender vows to help UD Almería bounce back and return to winning ways against AD Ceuta FC this Sunday
UD Almería central defender Federico Bonini has acknowledged the team's recent poor form and accepted the criticism from fans. Reflecting on the disappointing results, Bonini said: 'We know the fans aren't happy, although we're the first ones who aren't either. It's normal. What we need to do now is get back to where we were 2 months ago.'
The 24-year-old Serbian-Italian defender emphasised that the team remains united despite the recent setbacks: 'We're the same team we were when we were winning. The responsibility lies with everyone, not just our head coach.'
Bonini was quick to defend head coach Rubi, reiterating the confidence the players have in him: 'I see head coach Rubi as always; he's a great head coach and he instills confidence in his players. We don't need to talk about him because, as far as I'm concerned, everything is fine.'
After missing 6 matches due to injury, Bonini is eager to make his injury return to action: 'I'm happy the fans are pleased with my return, but now I'm only thinking about helping my team as much as possible to recover that winning mentality. It was 6 weeks that didn't go by quickly, to be honest,' he admitted.
Looking ahead, Bonini acknowledged that ups and downs are part of any season: 'I think it's normal to have good and bad spells during a season; it's happened to our rivals, including Racing Santander. Right now, we're only thinking about AD Ceuta FC to start the match on the right foot and avoid what has sometimes happened, where teams come to draw and sit back.'
