Soko called up to Cameroon squad for Africa Cup of Nations

The UD Almería right-winger is set to represent his home country in Morocco, but official confirmation pending

UD Almería right-winger Soko has been named in the Cameroon squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be held in Morocco from 21 December to 18 January. However, neither the player nor the Club has received official confirmation regarding the exact dates for his departure on international duty.

Under FIFA regulations, players must join their national teams at least 15 days before the tournament’s opening match. If there is no agreement between the Cameroon Football Federation and UD Almería, Soko is expected to leave on international duty after his team’s final league match against FC Andorra next week.

Cameroon’s AFCON Group Fixtures

The Cameroon squad are placed in Group F alongside Gabon, Ivory Coast, and Mozambique. Their group stage matches are scheduled as follows:

24 December: Cameroon vs Gabon

28 December: Cameroon vs Ivory Coast

31 December: Cameroon vs Mozambique

As there are no LaLiga Hypermotion fixtures on those dates, if Cameroon is eliminated from the tournament early, Soko could return to UD Almería in time for the first match of 2026. However, if they advance to the knockout stages, Soko’s participation could extend into January.

Soko is not the only player from Spain’s second division who will be representing his country at the AFCON. CD Castellón’s Brian Cipenga will join the Congo national team, while AD Ceuta FC’s Kialy Abdoul Koné could be called up by Ivory Coast. Other potential absences include Luca Zidane of Granada CF (Algeria), Owono of FC Andorra (Equatorial Guinea) and Maguette of Racing Santander (Senegal).
