Squad reshuffle continues: Marcos Peña released to FC Famalicão

The UD Almería midfielder departs for Portuguese top-flight as Club’s retained list takes further shape, with 12 exits and 8 new signings confirmed

UD Almería’s summer overhaul shows no signs of slowing down. The latest movement sees 20-year-old midfielder Marcos Peña officially released to FC Famalicão in Portugal’s Primeira Liga. Although Peña was registered with UD Almería ‘B’, he had been training regularly with the first team and took part in this summer’s Marbella training camp before departing a few days ago to complete his transfer.

A product of the Club’s youth system, Peña was part of the U19 squad that finished runners-up in the 2022/23 Spanish Cup U19, and helped UD Almería ‘B’ earn promotion to the second tier in 2023/24. He also made his first-team debut last season under former head coach Pepe Mel, marking an important milestone in his progression.

Now heading for a new chapter in Portuguese football, the Club has thanked Peña for his dedication and professionalism, wishing him success in the next stage of his footballing career.

The departure of Peña brings the total number of exits from the first-team and key academy players to 12 this summer. Notable names include Luis Suárez (Sporting CP), Marc Pubill (Atlético de Madrid), Appiah (Amiens SC), Kaiky (Shabab Al Ahli), and Juan Gutiérrez (Defensa y Justicia), among others. Meanwhile, others such as Radovanovic had their contracts mutually terminated, and the likes of PozoArnau Solá, and Bruno Langa have also moved abroad.

On the arrivals side, 8 players have been added to the retained list, reinforcing key positions. New faces include goalkeeper Andrés Fernández (Levante UD), full-backs ChirinoMarcos Luna, and Álex Muñoz, as well as centre-back Nelson Montemidfielders Dzodic and André Horta and striker Soko.

The squad rebuild continues as UD Almería shape their team roster for the 2025/26 campaign, with further changes expected in the coming weeks.
