The UD Almería head coach made no excuses for UD Almería’s defeat to CD Tenerife and was highly self-critical of his side. 'It's difficult to win a game if you don’t compete at the same level as your opponents and match their intensity,' he stated
UD Almería head coach Xavier García Pimienta was particularly critical of his team’s performance at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium and accepted full responsibility for the defeat. In fact, he stated bluntly: 'If you give away the first half, this is what happens.'
The gaffer admitted he was extremely frustrated with his side’s attitude during the opening 45 minutes, when in his words: 'The opponents completely overran us.'
'We were playing catch-up from the off, and that makes things very difficult. It was a first half to forget, in which it is impossible to do worse. If you don’t compete at the same level as your opponents and don’t match their intensity, it is very difficult to win,' he explained.
'Things were different in the second half. We had our chances and could have equalised,' he stated.
García Pimienta truly hopes the defeat will serve as a lesson for the future, not because of the result itself, but because of the manner in which it came about.
