Rubi: 'If we beat Córdoba CF we'd take a big step forward'

The UDA head coach does not take this Sunday's rivals for granted as he says that if they win, his team would move to the top considering that a few matchweeks ago they were in the drop zone. 'We must help the victims of the cold drop,' he said

'If we're able to beat Córdoba CF we'd take a big step forward, something we really want, and that is what we've talked about because we'd get into the top of the table considering that a few matchweeks ago we were in relegation,' stated UD Almería head coach Rubi as he looked ahead to Matchday 13 against the Córdoba side.

The Rojiblancos will head into the home game on the back of a packed schedule since the match against Córdoba CF is the 5th in 15 days. At the moment the results are being positive as they have added 7 of the 9 points at stake in LaLiga and are still in contention in the Spanish Cup

'There are aspects of the game that give me hope for the future, but there are others that we still have to polish,' he added. One of the objectives is avoiding shipping so many goals from set-pieces, something that can be corrected with graft, but also, as he pointed out, 'doing well in 1v1 duels.'

When talking about Córdoba CF, this Sunday's Andalusian rivals, he explained: 'It's true that they haven't won on their trips, but I don't take them for granted because they could've done it and it could happen at any time. I liked them a lot in Granada and in Albacete, they were close to clinching the victory. They're a recently promoted team and they're doing well because they have no problems in the table. They have talented players in attack, they're well trained and they can challenge us in possession of the ball.'

The press conference that Rubi gave addressed the situation that is being experienced as a consequence of this week's cold drop, especially in the Valencian community. The gaffer once again conveyed his heartfelt condolences: 'What's happening is horrific. Every little counts. It'd be nice to support them with our physical presence, but it's complicated.'

The Catalan head coach considered it 'very difficult' to make a decision to suspend the game, although he would understand it 'especially when thinking about those people from Valencia who are away from their homeland with their relatives living there (Alex Centelles).'
