Sergio Akieme: ‘I came here to show why they believe in me’
The new left-back sees UD Almeria as a ‘young and excited team’ who really want to achieve ‘promotion’ this season
Sergio Akieme made it clear that UD Almería will start LaLiga SmartBank next Sunday with their sights set on ‘promotion’. This is what the former FC Barcelona player stated in the first statements he made since his arrival at the Rojiblanco club a few days ago. He comes with the intention of ‘showing why they believe in me’. Furthermore, he expressed his desire to ‘continue growing as a professional player.’
The 22-year-old left-back reported that he met ‘a good team and young, enthusiastic players too’ upon landing in the city of Almería. Within the squad he has been able to coincide with some footballers whom he already knew from other stages, a fact that he considers important adaptation.
The Madrid-born footballer cannot deny that even though the Almería team have a clear game idea, it is necessary to continue to ‘brush up on game concepts’. In this sense, he explained: ‘Little by little, we will improve it.’ Likewise, Akieme considers that his qualities allow him to know how to ‘understand the coach.’
With his mind set on the team’s visit to Lugo, the new Rojiblanco signing stressed that the dressing room face this season’s first fixture with ‘a lot of work and enthusiasm. ‘We are training quite hard. We are taking in concepts and we’re going to go all out’, he added.
