Samú Costa: ‘Real Madrid will have to work hard to beat us’
The Portuguese defensive midfielder assures ‘the team has confidence, ambition and are really eager to start’
UD Almería continue with their preparations for the forthcoming season in the top flight. The players are training day after day with great effort to feel confident when taking on reigning LaLiga Santander champions Real Madrid CF. Samú Costa sat down with the Club's official media at the team's training camp in Montecastillo to talk about the pre-season and also look ahead to the exciting upcoming campaign.
Training sessions are really demanding, not only because of the hard slog, but also because of the sweltering temperatures. The Portuguese made it clear ‘we’re working hard these days with high intensity training. It’s also scorching so it’s hard for the players, but this is part of the pre-season and we have to be mentally strong because it’ll help us a lot.’
The first division has gone from being a dream to becoming a reality and Samú assures that ‘it’s going to be very different from last season. We’re going to have to change a bit in some games, but the second tier was also difficult, so we’re prepared for it. We’ve got the objectives set and it’s an opportunity for the young players in the squad to realise that they have the talent to play in the top flight.’
UD Almería will go into LaLiga Santander with burning enthusiasm and the sole mentality of winning all the games, yet the 21-year-old is aware that ‘they must have their feet on the ground and if last season they did well with humility, this one they’ll have even more. We’ve worked hard to be able to play in big stadiums against big teams and we’re hard-working and we have deep humility, ambition.
The Rojiblancos will not change their style of play and will maintain their idea from last season, as stated by the Aveiro-born midfielder: ‘We’re working on new technical aspects, but the foundations are the same as last season’s, the players know what they have to do.’
The big question that the entire squad are asking themselves…Will it be feasible to beat Real Madrid CF? Samu replies, ‘Yeah sure, they're people with two legs like us. It's true that they're great players, however they're going to have to work a lot to beat us.’ The Portuguese feels fully confident ahead of this new season in the football elite, in this sense he said ‘I’ve put in the graft and I’m going to show that I’m a top-class player.’
