Samú Costa: ‘I’m at my best to help the team and my team-mates’
The defensive midfielder expects a successful year at UD Almería, where he hopes to make the leap into the best world football
‘I came to Almería to be able to make a leap into the best world football, which is my dream’, were the statements made by Samú Costa during a conversation with the club’s official media. What is more, the Portuguese player hopes that it will be a good season for UD Almería: ‘I’m hoping a year of wins. I’m at my best to help my team and my team-mates."
The Portuguese defensive midfielder is of the opinion that the key to success is working hard, a characteristic that, as he explained, his father has passed on to him since he started his footballing career. Thus, after defining himself as ‘a hardworking player’ who also ‘likes to have the ball under control’, the Portuguese stressed that now, he feels adapted to the Rojiblanco squad thanks to the fact that his team-mates warmly welcomed him and his huge effort to ‘earn a spot on the team and play at the best level.’
Samú ended up feeling quite disappointed by the defeat suffered last Sunday at Juegos Mediterraneos when he considered that Almería were far superior to opponents Sporting de Gijón. However, he would like to turn his attention to the next matchday: ‘It was actually an unfair result. I don't like to lose even in training, but now we have to work hard to win over Logroñés on Saturday.’
With regard to the next adversaries, the midfielder considers them as a team ‘that are going to play defensively, which is why he highlights the importance of ‘having patience and playing football’ when attempting to break the opponent’s defensive line and be able to create big chances.
