Salmerón makes debut as UD Almería 'B' head coach this Sunday

The newly-promoted head coach takes charge against Xerez Deportivo FC amidst relegation battle

José María Salmerón will make his debut as the head coach of UD Almería 'B' this Sunday, when the team faces Xerez Deportivo FC at the Chapín Stadium (5pm CET) on Matchday 10. The Almería-born gaffer, who brings with him a wealth of experience from higher divisions, replaces Alberto Lasarte after being appointed last Thursday.

Salmerón, who is well aware of the challenges ahead, is determined to turn the team's fortunes around in what remains a tough season. 'I accept the challenge of moving the team forward,' he said during his official presentation, alongside Ibán Andrés, head of the youth Academy.

Both teams are locked in a relegation battle, with Xerez Deportivo FC aiming to escape the drop zone with a victory, while UD Almería 'B' remains second-bottom, having secured just three points so far.

Salmerón is focused on the task at hand, acknowledging the urgency of a positive result but stressing that there is still time to improve: 'This is a marathon, not a sprint.' He noted the players' willingness and enthusiasm but highlighted areas in need of immediate improvement, particularly in both penalty boxes, where the team has struggled both to score and to defend.

Despite limited preparation time ahead of the match, Salmerón is optimistic the team will be ready to implement his strategies and secure a much-needed win.
