Rubi: ‘We’re visiting SD Amorebieta when they’re at their best’’
The head coach expects a very difficult Cup tie and proposes a Christmas toast to the media after the presser
Rubi looked ahead to Thursday’s Copa del Rey second round tie against SD Amorebieta at the Urritxe ground, an encounter that the UD Almeria head coach has not hesitated in describe as really complicated, underlining that they’re visiting the Zornotzarras ‘when they’re at their best this season.’ On that note, he argued ‘They haven’t lost any of their last four games including the previous Spanish Cup round.’
Furthermore, as Rubi explained, ‘I haven’t seen any match in which Amorebieta don’t compete to their strengths. They haven’t been beaten or defeated easily. They have a sense of fair play and always try to force you to remain focused at all times as they put it in the box quickly with effective crosses and aerial prowess. Apart from this, they return to play in their stadium a crunch game. It’ll definitely be a tough one, but we’re looking forward to it.’
As their head coach emphasized, UD Almeria will go into the game ‘with the mentality of getting through to the next round and playing a good game.’ Although the main objective for the Rojiblancos is the league, the head coach stated ‘we’re not going to give up on the Copa. As long as we’re here, we’ll compete in all the games and tournaments.’
When asked about playing at the Urritxe pitch instead of the one in Lezama, as it happened in the league, he replied ‘the pitch size is never an excuse. Their only advantage over us is that they’ll be playing at home. We must be smart and read the game.’
After the presser at the Juegos Mediterraneos, Rubi proposed a Christmas toast with champagne to the media. He wished them all Merry Christmas and talked with some journalists about their impressions.
