Rubi: ‘We’re one small step away and I’m convinced that we’re not going to let it go’

The UD Almeria head coach defines the victory as ‘deserved,’ although acknowledging that it is ‘more difficult than the scoreboard indicates’

UD Almeria head coach Rubi was thrilled to bits following the Rojiblancos' 0-2 victory over Real Sociedad ‘B’ in San Sebastian since he was fully aware that he shared that feeling with many people from Almeria who feel extremely close to Primera Division as season reaches defining fixtures. It was for this reason that the gaffer said: ‘We’re one small step away [promotion], but I’m convinced that we’re not going to let it go.’

The man in the driving seat of the Indálicos squad stated that it was ‘a deserved victory’ that his players walked away with against Real Sociedad ‘B’, although he took the opportunity to convey his feeling that the game was much more difficult than the result reflected on the scoreboard. He added on this subject: ‘It was a tough game because the first half was tight; the team was solid and sure of what they were doing in the second.’

There remain a couple of fixtures to come before the end of the regular season. UD Almería could officially become a top flight team this Saturday if Real Valladolid CF get defeated or the Pucelanos draw while SD Eibar lose on Matchday 40, which is why Rubi admitted that he will not miss the direct rivals' league appointments: ‘We depend on ourselves and if they [Real Valladolid CF and SD Eibar] fall to defeat, we’ll go out and celebrate. If not, we’ll work to beat AD Alcorcón.’
