Rubi reaches milestone of 150 matches as UD Almería head coach

The Catalan head coach continues to break records as he shapes his legacy with the Rojiblancos

Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, better known as Rubi, has marked a significant milestone in his career, overseeing 150 matches as the UD Almería head coach. The 55-year-old continues to make history, setting new records and solidifying his place in the Club’s annals as he enters his 5th season at the helm of the Andalusian side.

Rubi's journey with UD Almería has been a remarkable one, spanning across two separate tenures. After initially taking charge in the 2020/21 season, he led the team through the final stretch of the campaign, including promotion play-offs. In the following season, Rubi steered UD Almería to the top flight, lifting the Segunda title and earning promotion. He guided the team through 45 matches, with a total of 3 Copa del Rey encounters in the 2021/22 season.

The 2022/23 campaign saw the Vilassar de Mar native successfully keep the team in LaLiga EA Sports, but he announced his departure at season's end, after managing 39 matches across league and Cup competitions. However, in the summer of 2024, Rubi returned to Almería with a new challenge in mind: promotion. In his first match back, he almost secured it and his team’s stunning 4-1 Spanish Cup win over Sevilla FC showcased their growing potential.

Rubi’s coaching legacy continues to expand. He became the Club’s longest-serving head coach last season, surpassing Juan Martínez 'Casuco' (127 matches).

Now, in the current 2025/26 season, the 55-year-old has already managed 10 matches, bringing his total to 150. His contributions to UD Almería are truly historic and his record-breaking tenure with the Club is far from over.
