Rubi: ‘It's vital to ensure the third consecutive home victory’
The UD Almeria head coach believes this Saturday's match is of the utmost importance, but warns of Celta's threats, such as seasoned veteran Iago Aspas ‘who wins many games for his team’
UD Almeria head coach Rubi attaches great importance to this Saturday's home match against Real Club Celta de Vigo and considers that there will be more than 3 points at stake. He stressed ‘it’s vital to ensure the third consecutive victory at home because it’d help us to get out of the bottom half of the table.’ At the same time, he pointed out that the appointment ‘isn't the last match, and if it weren’t won, it wouldn’t be definitive.’
The Rojiblancos’ gaffer made these statements during the pre-Celta press conference at the Power Horse Stadium, in which he spoke of the adversaries’ enormous potential and threats. Rubi explained ‘we’re going to face a very good team with good players whom you can’t let them have a good day. Therefore, it’ll be a tough and hard game to move forward if we don't do things right.’
Celta de Vigo have an exceptional footballer up front. Rubi talked about experienced centre-forward Iago Aspas: ‘He’s a seasoned veteran and a player that I look up to like Canales, Parejo or Raúl García; time goes by and they’re always the best. We’ve got a plan so that Iago Aspas doesn’t show his abilities, which are many, but without ignoring the rest,’ he commented. ‘If we don't do things right, we'll see a team that touches the ball well and plays football effectively. Stopping Iago Aspas from creating danger is part of the game plan but it isn’t the only thing.’
The Vilassar de Mar native has also explained one of UD Almería's areas for improvement: ‘I always call for good starts to the games, but one way or another, first halves used to turned against us. As soon as a setback arose, we fell in the first periods and played better second halves; now it's not that we're doing badly in terms of organisation, however it's true that we're conceding more goals than we'd like and we need to score more.’ Before bringing the presser to an end, he added: ‘We all need to take one step further and improve in this aspect in which the entire squad is important. We have to help the team maintain consistency.’
