Rubi: ‘It’s a very happy day for the whole Almeria family’

The UD Almeria head coach recognises that their goal is closer than ever, albeit he prefers to avoid unwanted distractions until it is finally achieved

A word from Rubi after the full-time whistle: ‘It's a very happy day for the whole Almeria family.’ The head coach was delighted in the press room following the comprehensive 3-0 victory over SD Amorebieta. It was a key match in which his side had the feeling that they couldn't let anyone down due to the presence of Turki Alalashikh, the electric atmosphere in the Mediterraneo stands and the fact of ‘making the result in Burgos and the losses of the promotion-chasers good enough.’

Once these huge 3 points belonged to the Indalicos, the gaffer could not hide that the objective of moving up to the Primera Division is closer than ever, which led him to recognise that UD Almería would have to ‘do very badly’ to not fulfill it. Be that as it may, Rubi did not neglect to point out that until this is achieved, it will be necessary to carry on fighting tooth and nail as before.

Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia ‘Rubi’ shared more of his post-match thoughts with the media: ‘As we expected, the first half was a bit tougher for us and we were on fire in the second.’ In his humble opinion, ‘the 1-0 is always a boost’ and even more when it is scored by a team like the Rojiblancos who have kept another clean sheet.

The UD Almeria head coach took advantage of the journalists' questions to thank the keen fans, explaining: ‘The attendance has been incredible and they’ve more than fulfilled what we needed from them and they’ve had a great time today.’

The Vilassar de Mar native also addressed questions about UD Almeria President and owner TurkiAlalshikh’s visit, describing it as ‘a huge surprise’ since they were told in the dressing room that he would travel to Almeria city if Burgos FC were beaten, although it wasn’t confirmed.’ He said 'we’re definitely going to get it [promotion], but there are still some games to go’ and from there, we’ll start working on the next season,’ Rubi stressed just before the press conference came to an end.
