Rubi: ‘I'm very happy because we led UD Almería to the top flight again’

The UD Almeria head coach confesses that at no time did he lose hope of achieving the goal in Leganes city

As marvellous feelings were experienced in the Butarque stands after the final whistle blown in Leganes city, head coach Rubi was ‘very happy’ in the press room after becoming the third coach to lead UD Almería to the Primera Division in its history and thus, the he did not hesitate to point out: ‘I’m very happy to help an Andalusian team move back up. They’re treating me very well and the province of Almeria are now back in the top tier.’

The Rojiblancos’ gaffer confessed that, despite how tough the match was and that his nerves were stretched, he never lost hope that the goal could be achieved. ‘I know that this sport is sometimes decided on the last ball,’ commented the head coach while admitting that they didn't pay attention in the dugout to what was happening on other pitches until the last 15 minutes.’

Rubi also talked about SD Eibar, who will finally participate in the play-offs for promotion, and he did so by conveying his humble opinion that the Basque-based side had performed a brilliant season. He pointed out in this regard the following: ‘The end of the season has been incredible because the teams that don't have much at stake are purely professionals. All three of us would’ve deserved it.’ Focusing on UD Almería, he reflected on the clear merits of the Rojiblancos as they are the only team that has been placed in promotion positions either on the top-two or the play-offs zone throughout the competition.
