Rodrigo Ely makes first call-up and debut appearance
The Brazilian centre-back comes on late in Cádiz as Almería return home and begin a short week ahead of Friday’s clash with Andorra
Rodrigo Ely, signed this week at the close of the January transfer window, received his first UD Almería call-up in the match against Cádiz CF and also made his debut as a Rojiblanco. The Brazilian centre-back came on in the 78th minute, replacing Sergio Arribas, as head coach Rubi looked to shore up his defence.
With Cádiz CF applying sustained pressure and delivering a series of balls into the box, the UD Almería head coach opted to switch to a back three. Ely showed the authority and presence expected of him, underlining the role he is set to play in the team.
All 3 January recruits are already making an impact. Miguel de la Fuente and Jon Morcillo were once again named in the starting XI and both impressed. Morcillo, in particular, capped his performance by scoring his second goal for UD Almería, following his strike against AD Ceuta FC.
The squad travelled back immediately after the match, returning on a charter flight via Jerez de la Frontera. On Monday, the team will hold a recovery session as they begin a short working week, with FC Andorra visiting the UD Almería Stadium on Friday. The players will have Tuesday off, before training resumes on Wednesday.
Looking ahead to the next league fixture, Rubi will be able to call on Dzôdić again after suspension and may also have Nico Melamed available. Lopy is expected to be the only absentee as he continues the final stages of his recovery.
On the disciplinary front, UD Almería now have 4 players one booking away from suspension: Alex Muñoz, Gui Guedes, Baba and Embarba, with the latter two both booked in Cádiz.
