Rodrigo Ely: ‘I'm here to help UD Almería achieve their goal’

The Italian-Brazilian central defender is officially presented by Mohamed El Assy as a new Rojiblanco player this Tuesday

‘I’m here to help UD Almería achieve their goal of promotion, which they’ve been so close to attaining in the last two seasons,’ pointed out latest signing Rodrigo Ely during his official presentation in which he was accompanied by Club's General Manager Mohamed El Assy. The UD Almeria CEO described his signing as ‘different and special’ because ‘they usually take place in the summer or in January, not in March,’ and also mentioned that the Italian-Brazilian defender will make a vital contribution to reach the Spanish Primera Division.

The 28-year-old player is considered ready to play when the head coach deems it appropriate. Rodrigo stated ‘I’m ready to play when the head coach thinks it’s necessary. The truth is that the group, the coach and all the staff have welcomed me heartily; It feels like I've been here for months and I reckon that this is also a virtue of this group. I want to give a shout-out to them because they’re making it easy for me.’

Regarding his characteristics, the Lajeado (Rio Grande do Sul) native commented ‘the central defender position has changed a lot in recent years. I like to be active on the wing, have good game awareness, build up play from the back well and take the lead as I’ve always been doing. I try to be as complete as possible to grow professionally and help the team achieve their goals.’

Rodrigo Ely explained that he was extraordinarily excited about this marvellous opportunity offered by UD Almería. Meanwhile, he is keenly aware of the difficulties that the LaLiga SmartBank entails, however he trusts the possibilities of his new team that he’s seen play good football, as he highlighted.
