Nélson Monte returns to UD Almería on 3-year deal
Reliable centre-back rejoins the Rojiblancos after two standout seasons playing for Málaga CF
UD Almería have completed the signing of Portuguese defender Nélson Monte, who returns to the Club on a contract until 2028. The 30-year-old centre-back becomes the Rojiblancos' 7th summer addition, arriving after two impressive seasons with Málaga CF where he emerged as a defensive leader.
Monte played a crucial role in Málaga CF’s promotion from third-tier Primera RFEF last season, anchoring a backline that conceded just 25 goals in 38 games — the best defensive record across Spain’s third division. His consistency and aerial dominance were on full display, having previously featured in 33 LaLiga Hypermotion matches and scoring 3 goals.
No stranger to UD Almería, Monte originally joined the Club in March 2022 during their historic title-winning season in Spain’s second division. Though he did not make an appearance during that campaign, he trained under current head coach Rubi and is now back to play a central role on the pitch.
The former GD Chaves and Dnipro-1 defender brings top-flight experience from both Portugal and Ukraine, as well as appearances in Cup competitions and European qualifiers. Known for his composure, strength in duels and also leadership at the back, Monte returns to UD Almería ready to add stability and depth to the defensive unit.
