Trial of strength between UD Almería Women and CF Unión Viera Women

Both sides are evenly-matched with seven match weeks to go as the race for survival hots up

UD Almería Women are fighting their way to stay afloat in Segunda Division RFEF Grupo Sur [South Group]. CF Union Viera Women are their direct rivals from Las Palmas, with whom they are involved the race for safety. Despite the two teams are level on points, the girls from Canarias beat the Rojiblancas on goal difference at the minute. It is still uncertain which side will be the fourth to get relegated along with bottom three Santa Teresa CD Women, La Solana and Pozoalbense.

UD Almería Women have seven Matchdays to go. Well, let's say six if we take into account that in the last fixture, they are meant to take on the girls from Santa Teresa, who have already exited the competition.

The Indálicas will be battling it out against Real Betis 'B' Women, Levante 'B' and Madrid CFF, yet there is one game that will be played on 14 May as though it were a final against CF Unión Viera Women. In the first half of the campaign, both outfits settled for a point on the road (1-1) and now the Rojiblancas may have relative advantage since that clash will be the last for them given the fact that they would have to face already-relegated Santa Teresa CD Women on the last fixture of the season and that gives them 3 points to add to their tally.

It looks set to be a tense and interesting few weeks as both teams are going the extra mile to move away from the bottom three. Next up? UD Almería Women host sixth-ranked Real Betis 'B' Women this Saturday for a 5pm kick-off, while CF Unión Viera Women will pick up the three points of the already-relegated Santa Teresa CD Women.
