Portillo: ‘We musn’t deviate from the script or do anything special’

The right-winger stresses that UD Almeria have to stay on track with hard-work and humility and focus squarely on Friday's fixture at the Reale Arena

‘We’ve come a long way through hard-work and humility; we have to make one last effort on the home stretch now. We mustn’t deviate from the script or do anything special. We have to start the week off right with enthusiasm, ambition and go all out for a victory on Friday,’ exclaimed UD Almeria right-winger Francisco Portillo, who recognised in this sense that their goal is really close, however, he pointed out ‘we haven't achieved anything yet though.’

The Malaga-born player believes that the best way to face this last stretch of the season is to focus squarely on the match against Real Sociedad ‘B’. ‘We’re in a privileged position, it’s a scenario we’d have taken at the beginning of the campaign and right now we’ve got to get the job done, even though we know it won’t be easy at all. It’s time to keep a level head and think clearly,’ he commented.

Portillo expects the next match at Reale Arena to be highly demanding since Real Sociedad ‘B’ ‘are highly competitive adversaries. They’re very young and talented players with a great head coach at the helm of the team. They play attacking and they’re going to go all out for the victory just like us because they’ve got a lot at stake [avoid the drop].’

The 31-year-old midfielder prefers not to speculate about promotion. In fact, Portillo stressed ‘our only goal is to win the 3 points on Friday and after, whatever happens, happens. The most important thing is this game and forget about what might happen on Saturday or next week.’
