Perellano: 'Winning at San Mamés was a great joy... We were applauded by the whole stadium'

Former UD Almería player Hernán Pellerano recalled on UDA Radio the 1-3 victory achieved by the Rojiblancos in the past 2008/09 season in Bilbao.

Former UD Almería players Hernán Pellerano recalled on UDA Radio the only victory clinched by UD Almería at the San Mamés Stadium in 2008 when the team led by former UD Almería head coach Gonzalo Arconada debuted in the league winning 1-3 over Athletic Club of Bilbao.

The Argentinian footballer scored the first of the three goals that sealed victory for the Rojiblancos from South Spain: 'Winning on that pitch with the players they had, it was a great joy. Until we were up 0-3, we didn't declare victory. It's a place in which, despite winning, you always feel that you can be hunted and defeated at any time whatever the score is.'

Pellerano still remembers the rocking atmosphere at San Mamés with sheer happiness: 'It was incredible. When we were leaving the pitch, we were applauded by the whole stadium despite the fact that they lost.'

The 38-year-old former UD Almería player is still playing as a centre-back in Argentina, where he shares team with central midfielder Tino Costa at the Tucuman-based Club Atletico San Martín: 'We're doing very well and we continue to compete in the Argentinian second-tier called Primera Nacional, where it happens as in Spain, the second division is as competitive as the top division.'

Pellerano concluded his interview by giving a piece advice to Rubi's side: 'UD Almería must keep calm at San Mamés. They have a great squad to compete and match the intensity and quality of Athletic Club de Bilbao.'
