Pepe Mel: 'You cannot leave without scoring in games like this'
The UD Almería head coach regretted the lack of success of his team, but clarified: 'We've performed at a good level, getting the ball forward and creating more chances than them [Barça].'
UD Almería head coach Pepe Mel shared his post-game thoughts at a press conference after losing 0-2 to FC Barcelona. 'The other teams do not concede while we do. We've performed at a good level, getting the ball forward and we've created more chances than them, but we leave without scoring, this makes the difference. It was expected that FC Barcelona had the ball,' he said.
The Rojiblancos' gaffer also emphasised: 'We're working on all the errors, but today we had problems in both areas. You cannot leave without scoring in ganes like this because we've created more opportunities than them.'
Regarding the lack of pinpoint accuracy in the final third, the Madrid native stated: 'The job of a coaching staff is to work so that the team plays with creativity in attack to create chances. Whether it's right or not is up to the footballer. He also assured: 'Isco scored in a play that was exactly the same as the one in which we failed to hit the target. We have almost 40 goals for, but of course, those 72 goals against are a heavy cross to bear.'
The Indálicos are very close to completing 365 days without winning a match at the Power Horse Stadium. For Pepe Mel, this has no explanation: 'We don't know what to say to ourselves, going a year without winning on home turf... the team has had plenty of opportunities to be able to do it, we just don't understand it.'
To conclude, Mr Mel stated: 'I see the day-to-day life of the players. It's difficult to know that the team is going to be in the Segunda Division next season. It's complicated and we try to get the best out of them to compete. I came here knowing what I was coming for, now we have to go añl out and win in Mallorca and against Cádiz CF, which is our obligation.'
